Wells Women's Basketball Wins Against Oswego State

The Wells College women's basketball team led for almost the entire game and earned 56-47 win over Oswego State on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Schwartz Athletic Center.

Oswego State held a 3-0 lead to open the game, but Wells scored the next 11 points and the Express led the rest of the way.

Wells led 23-16 at halftime with balanced scoring as all five starters found the scoresheet in the opening half. At the defensive end of the floor, Wells helped force 16 Oswego State turnovers in the first half and 27 in the game.

Oswego State pulled within three points on three different occasions in the fourth quarter but Wells answered each time. The Lakers made the score 39-36 before the Express went on a seven-point run. Carley Ryan started the run with a jumper, Shelby Medovich made a layup, and Ryan hit a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to give Wells a 46-36 lead. The lead remained at five points or greater over the final minutes of the contest.

Shelby Medovich and Carley Ryan each scored 19 points and had five steals apiece. Ryan led Wells with 10 rebounds. Jordan Jacobs also scored in double-figures for the Express with 10 points. Medovich was 10-for-12 at the free-throw line in the game, including 5-for-6 in the fourth quarter. Maritza Scharoun and Miranda Mingen scored four points each.

Wells is back in action Sunday, Jan. 6 with a 2 p.m. home game against SUNY Cortland.
