Cortland Pulls Away For Women's Basketball Win

The Wells College women's basketball team lost a 62-38 game against SUNY Cortland on Sunday, Jan. 6 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Shelby Medovich and Carley Ryan scored in double-figures. The Express returns to action Wednesday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. against Cazenovia College.

Wells held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter. The Express defended the paint well and forced Cortland into perimeter shots, but the Red Dragons were hot from the outside with seven made 3-pointers accounting for 21 of Cortland's first 23 points in the game. The Red Dragons closed the first half with a 13-3 run and led 27-19 at halftime.

Wells stayed within striking distance in the third quarter, but the fourth quarter saw Cortland pull away for the win.

Carley Ryan scored 15 points for the Express and Shelby Medovich had 13 points. Medovich had eight rebounds and shot 4-for-7 from the floor and 4-for-6 at the foul line. Maritza Scharoun had six points and seven rebounds.
