Cazenovia Triumphs Over Wells Women's Basketball

The Wells College women's basketball team lost 67-49 to Cazenovia College on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at the Schwartz Athletic Center. Carley Ryan scored 24 points for the Express and Maritza Scharoun added 14 points.

Cazenovia closed the first quarter with a 12-2 run and led by seven after the opening 10 minutes. Wells stayed within striking distance through the second and third quarters. Cazenovia outscored Wells by eight points in the fourth quarter and pulled away for the win.

The visiting Wildcats held a 65-43 rebounding advantage and pulled down 27 offensive rebounds that led to 24 second-chance points.

Ryan's 24-point night included two 3-pointers and six made free throws. Scharoun's 14-point total was a career-best and the first time in her career she scored in double-figures. Scharoun added 13 rebounds, four steals and a blocked shot. Miranda Mingen had 11 rebounds for the Express.

Cazenovia is 2-8 overall and 1-3 in the NEAC. Wells is 1-11 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Wells stays in conference play for road games this weekend. Saturday, Wells will visit Penn College and on Sunday, Wells takes on Penn State Berks.
