Women’s Basketball Team Falls in Road Opener

The Wells College women's basketball team dropped its opening game against host D'Youville College on Saturday, Nov. 9 in Buffalo.

With less than a week to practice with a full squad due to student-athletes still participating in fall sports, the Express played its best ball from the whistle after taking a 14-11 first quarter lead.

The Spartans rallied with a solid second quarter on their way to an 80-35 win.

Jordan Jacobs led Wells with 13 points. Maritza Scharoun just missed a double-double after scoring 10 points with nine boards. Scharoun also had a team-high five steals. Brittany Kropp just missed joining Jacobs and Scharoun as a double-digit scorer with nine.

The women's basketball team next hosts Alfred State in its home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 12 with a 6 p.m. start.
