Women’s Basketball Team Rebounds with Strong Second Half

The Wells College women's basketball team needed some time to get their legs going after a pair of back-to-back road contests with the latter of the two at Lancaster Bible College on Saturday, Jan. 12.

But once the Express found its rhythm, they went toe-to-toe with the host Chargers. Wells played Lancaster Bible even in the second half with each team scoring 26. That included Wells outscoring the Chargers by a four-point margin in the final quarter.

Wells improved its scoring totals in each quarter, but it was a fast Lancaster start in the opening quarter that proved to be the difference. Takeaway that opening quarter, and the rest of the game came down to a two-score affair in a 58-40 final.

Despite that first quarter, Wells had a slightly higher shooting percentage from the floor for the game. The Express played conservative from outside the arc in attempting just one 3-pointer, whereas Lancaster relied on its outside shooting in obtaining 21 of its 58 points from three-land.

Lorissa Park led the express with 16 points, followed by 13 from Jennifer McCumber. Defensively, Jordan Jacobs had her second-consecutive game with three blocks while hauling in a team-high nine rebounds and half-dozen assists.

The women's basketball team next travels to Morrisville State for a 7 p.m. game on Wednesday, Jan. 15.
