Express Finish Strong Against Undefeated Wildcats

The Wells College women's basketball team knew they had their hands full when the only undefeated team in conference play came calling on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

SUNY Poly may have intimidated the Express in the beginning, but by the end of the game Wells was keeping pace with the NEAC's premier team.

Sonia Rivera and Jordan Jacobs led a fourth-quarter surge with four points apiece, while Jennifer McCumber contributed a pair and Lorissa Parks drained a three for a 13-point fourth quarter that was just a score away from Poly's final quarter total.

Rivera and Jacobs shouldered most of the load with the pair combing for 14 points on the night. McCumber finished with four, Parks with three, Mackenzie Kunkle scored a pair and Maeghan Westmiller added a free throw.

The Express dropped the contest by a 74-24 score, but not before netting 55 percent of their points in the final quarter.

Maritza Scharoun had her string of three-consecutive double doubles snapped although her and Parks combined for 10 boards with each getting five. Jacobs led the team in rebounds with seven and in steals with four.

The women's basketball team will host SUNY Morrisville this Saturday, Feb. 1 with a 3 p.m. tipoff.
