Women’s Basketball Team Finishes Strong Against Tigers

The Wells College women's basketball team had its best quarter in the fourth and played the host Fighting Tigers to a one-score quarter in the final quarter on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

The Express received balanced scoring with four players netting between 7-10 points each, however it wasn't enough as the Express fell to Cobleskill by a 70-31 score.

After the Fighting Tigers came out flying with a 9-0 run, Wells responded with the game's next five points and finished the first trailing by seven. The Express kept pace for most of the second quarter and had kept the game within a pair of scores at 15-9 before the Fighting Tigers buried a pair of threes for some breathing room.

Maritza Scharoun scored seven points, led the team in assists with four, and co-led the team with Jennifer McCumber in steals with three. Scharoun was one of three Express players with seven points on the night and was joined by McCumber and Jordan Jacobs as that trio combined for 21.

Lorissa Parks led the team in points with 10 with the majority of those points coming from beyond the arc.

The women's basketball team returns home for a 2 p.m. contest against visiting Keuka on Feb. 8.
