Women’s Basketball Team Falls to Wildcats

The Wells College women's basketball team got a double-double performance from one player and two others came close to double-doubles of their own in an 84-51 road loss at Cazenovia College on Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Maritza Scharoun led the team in both points and boards. Scharoun netted 19 points and 11 rebounds to record another double-double this season. Jordan Jacobs was just a pair of rebounds shy of joining her after finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jennifer McCumber also came close to a double-double and fell shy by one bucket and one rebound after scoring eight and hauling in nine rebounds.

Also with solid contributions were Sonia Rivera with a half-dozen points and Lorissa Parks with five points. Maeghan Westmiller added a pair of points to round out the Wells scoring.

The Express' perseverance was on display after Wells trailed by 20 points in the first half, but cut that deficit nearly in half at 35-24 midway through the contest. A pair of Cazenovia players set the Express back after combining for more than 50 points.

The women's basketball team next travels to Penn State Abington on Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 3 p.m. contest.
