WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO BARD

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.–  The Wells College women's lacrosse team fell 8-7 to the Bard College Raptors in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at Bard. Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif./Helix) led the Express with three goals, while Stefanie Miller (Barton, N.Y./Tioga) added one goal and three assists. With the loss the Express fall to 4-6, while Bard improves to 1-5 on the season.

Farah Akhtar scored two goals in the first four minutes, giving Bard the 2-0 advantage to start the first half. The Express responded as Anna Breard (Biddeford, Maine/Biddeford) and Bass each netted two goals, giving Wells the 4-2 lead. Bard trimmed the lead to 4-3 on a goal by Lauren Doresy-Spitz, but the Express bounced right back finding the back of cage twice more before the break for a 6-3 lead.

The Raptors turned things around in the second half, netting five straight goals in the first 16 minutes, while holding the Express to just one shot, as Bard took the lead 8-6. The Express pulled with one on Bass' third goal with 2:55 remaining, but were unable to find the equalizer as the Raptors held on for the win. Wells managed just two shots on net in the half after firing 13 in the first half.

Bard held the advantage in shots 21-15 and ground balls 60-39, while the Express controlled the draw 9-8.

Wells returns to action next against Medaille College on Sunday, April 11 at 4:00 p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y.
