MUSTANGS USE STRONG SECOND HALF TO SINK EXPRESS

(Morrisville, N.Y.)─ Down 6-4 after the first half, the Wells College women's lacrosse team watched as the Morrisville State Mustangs exploded for 11 goals in the second half en route to a 17-8 victory in North Atlantic Conference West Division action on Friday evening in Morrisville, N.Y. The loss drops the Express to 6-5 overall and 4-1 in the NACW while the Mustangs remain undefeated in conference play (5-0) and improve to 5-5 overall.
 
Courtney Grosser (Penfield, NY) led the Express with three goals, three draw controls and two ground balls, while Sarah Allen (Clay, NY) and Stefanie Miller (Barton, NY) each tallied two goals. Kendra Francis (Hooper, Utah) finished with one goal to round out the scoring for the Express. Liz Barclay suffered the loss in goal for Wells finishing with 16 saves on the night.
 
Morrisville opened the game with four straight goals but the Express responded with unassisted goals by Grosser, Alan, and Miller to pull back within one goal 4-3 with four minute to play in the first half.
 
The two teams traded goals in the final minutes of the half before the Mustangs scored on a free position shot with 28-seconds to go before the break, taking a 6-4 lead.
 
The second half belonged to the Mustangs, who scored seven straight goals in the first ten minutes and never looked back en route to their fifth conference victory.
 
Morrisville held the advantage in shots (35-28) and ground balls (28-21) while both team were relatively even on the draw controls with the Mustangs holding a slight edge 14-13.
 
The Express return to action on Sunday when they travel to take on Cazenovia College at 3:30 p.m. Due to the impending weather the game will be played on the campus of Morrisville State in Morrisville, N.Y.
