EXPRESS FALL TO ALFRED UNIVERSITY

ALFRED, N.Y. - Despite two goals from Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y.) and Sarah Allen (Clay, N.Y.) the Wells College women's lacrosse team fell to the Alfred University Saxons 16-5 on Wednesday afternoon in Alfred, N.Y. With the loss the Express fall to 0-3 on the season while the Saxons improve to 2-2 on the year.

Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) tallied the lone other goal to round out the scoring for the Express. Bethane Wright (Weedsport, N.Y.) took the loss in net finishing with 10 saves.

Kaitlyn Button scored a game high four goals, while Ashley White, Ali Garcia, and Emily Crosby each scored three goals to pace the Saxons.

Allen put the Express up 1-0 early in the first half on a pass from Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) but the Saxons responded with three straight unassisted goals to take a 3-1 lead. Grosser pulled the Express to within one (3-2) on Bass' second helper of the game.

Alfred was again up to the task, tallying five straight goals to take a commanding 8-2 lead before Grosser finished an unassited goal with 1:59 to bring the score to 8-3 at the half.

Alfred scored two straight to open the second half and never looked back en route to the victory.

The Saxons fired 39 shots to the Express 10 and held a 29-17 advantage in ground balls while controlling the draw 15-8.

The Express return to action next when they take on the Soaring Eagles of Elmira at 4:00 p.m. in Aurora.
