High Scoring Battle Goes to the Lady Mavs

High Scoring Battle Goes to the Lady Mavs

Hamburg, NY - The Medaille women's lacrosse team survived a scare in a high scoring NEAC matchup as they held on for a (22-21) victory over visiting Wells College at All High Stadium this afternoon.  In a near dead even affair the Lady Mavs used a goal with (00:39) left on the clock to grab the win.

The Lady Mavs jumped out to an early (3-0) lead six minutes into play and seemed to be headed for an easy day but the Express had different plans as they netted four straight markers in a similar time span to grab the lead.  From that point on it would be a game of runs.  The Lady Mavs would hold a (9-6) advantage at the break.

The second half would see both teams enjoy the lead but the late goal by Taylor Hackford would prove to the game winner despite a furious effort in the waning seconds of the game by Wells that produced a pair of huge saves, including a left leg kick save with six seconds left.  Each goalie made (11) saves in the game as well.

Leading the way for the Lady Mavs was junior Madd Bass who had a career day with (5) goals and (3) assists for (8) points.  Junior Sarah Allen added seven goals for the Express while sophomore Courtney Grosser found the back of the net four times with Grosser also tallying two assist.  Freshman's Savannah Tucker also netted three goals for the Express alongside Marina Fargnoli with two goals on the day.  Defensively the Express were led by Shelby Moszkowicz, Brittany White, and Emily Middlebrook.

The Wells College Express next matchup will be Thursday 4/19 against SUNY Canton.  That game has a 4:00pm faceoff.
