Women's Lacrosse Overpowered By Mt. St. Mary, 16-4

NEWBURGH, N.Y. - Despite two goals from sophomore Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.), the Wells College women's lacrosse team fell to the Knights of Mount Saint Mary College by a 16-4 margin Monday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 0-1 overall on the young season while the Knights improve to 3-1 overall on the year.

Wells trailed by an 8-0 margin entering halftime as Danielle Krupka and Nicole Scicutella each struck twice against Express goalkeeper Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.). Kaileen Spadaro, Erica Massman, Katie McGinnis and Katy Cartelli each added goals in the opening stanza as well.

After Nicole Palmeiri and McGinnis added goals to increase the Knights lead to 10-0, sophomore Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the season for Wells to cut into the deficit. Tucker and senior Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) scored back-to-back goals within 29 seconds near the midway point of the second half but the deficit eventually proved too much to overcome.

Dann (0-1) draws her first collegiate loss, making nine saves against 25 total shots. For the Knights, Deidre Ray made only one save against five total shots in 60 minutes of action.

Wells was only 9-for-18 on clear attempts and turned the ball over 28 times. The host Knights held the advantage in draw controls, 12-to-10, while outshooting the Express 35-to-8 in the game.

The Express return to action Saturday, Mar. 23 as they face-off against the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton in a 1:00 p.m. road contest.
