Women’s Lacrosse Grounded By Redhawks, 15-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Despite scoring the first goal of the game, the Wells College women's lacrosse team fell to the Redhawks of Roberts Wesleyan College by a 15-1 margin Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-3 overall on the season while the Redhawks, who play the majority of their games against NCAA Division II opponents, improve to 5-3 overall on the year.

Senior Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) scored the first goal of the game, striking for her eighth goal of the season only 40 seconds into the contest. Roberts Wesleyan, however, countered with the game's next 15 goals while also holding Wells off of the scoresheet. The last time the Express were held to only one goal was Apr. 23, 2011 against the Hawks of Hartwick College at home.

Senior Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Express with 10 ground balls, tying Stefanie Miller '11 for the most ground balls in one game since the 2009 women's lacrosse season at Wells. Bass posted a team-leading five draw controls while freshman Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) posted the team's only caused turnover.

Three different players recorded three point games for Roberts Wesleyan, as Ali Fox, Kelsey Covel and Loren Dunn each accounted for the bulk of the Redhawks offense.

Victoria Link picked up the victory for Roberts Wesleyan, turning aside 6-of-7 shots on goal before yielding to Stephanie McClure to begin the second half of play. Junior Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) falls to 1-3 overall on the year despite turning aside 10 shots on net for the Express.

The Express return to action Tuesday, Apr. 2 as they host the Hawks of Hilbert College in a 4:00 p.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
