Women's Lacrosse Powers Past Wilson, 21-3

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – Captains Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) and Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.) scored five goals apiece as the Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 21-3 victory over the Phoenix of Wilson College Saturday afternoon at Kris's Meadow. With the victory, the Express improve to 4-3 overall and to 2-0 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Phoenix fall to 0-2 overall on the year and to 0-1 within league play.

With the victory, the Express have won three straight games for the first time since Sunday, Apr. 11, 2010 through Friday, Apr. 16 when they set down Medaille, Keuka and Morrisville St., all in a row. The Express have not won more than three games in a row since reliable statistics were first tracked in 1989. The longest Wells winning streak came in 1983 as the Express set down six teams in a row, including Hamilton, Oneonta St., Union, William Smith, Rochester (N.Y.) and Skidmore.

After four-straight Wells goals to open the contest, Wilson countered with two free position shots near the midpoint of the first half to set the score at 4-2. Wells then scored the game's next 15 goals before Jess Menard scored her second of the game with 12:10 remaining in the contest. Two additional insurance strikes, including the first collegiate goal in the career of freshman Alaina Kelahan (New Woodstock, N.Y.), followed to secure the fourth overall win of the season for the Express.

Tucker scored five goals for the Express for the second-straight contest while also causing three turnovers for Wells to tie a season-high mark in the latter category. Bass scored five goals for the second time this season, equaling her scoring output against Hilbert on Apr. 2. Sophomore Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) and freshman Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) each scored three goals and an assist for Wells, while Amber Jordan (Auburn, N.Y.) potted two for the Express. Freshman Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and senior Erika Bareiss (Clinton, N.Y.) each struck for one goal apiece.

Menard's two goals sandwiched a tally from Vanessa Whitfield near the midpoint of the first half.

For the Express, goalkeeper Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) collects her fourth victory of the season after halting two shots on goal. For Wilson, Alexis Ankro allowed 21 goals on 26 shots and was saddled with the loss.

Wells returns to action this Wednesday, Apr. 10 as they host the Saxons of Alfred University in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
