Women’s Lacrosse Stymied By Keuka, 17-3

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite two goals by sophomore Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.), the Wells College women's lacrosse team posted a 17-3 loss to the Storm of Keuka College Wednesday afternoon at the South Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express drop to 5-5 overall and to 3-2 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Storm improve to 7-2 overall and to an unblemished record in league play (5-0).

Keuka led from start to finish, building up a 6-0 lead in the game's first 10 minutes. Wells used a goal from senior Madeline Bass (Lemon Grove, Calif.) near the 20 minute mark, but Keuka added two goals late in the first half to carry an 8-1 lead into the intermission period. Wells scored first in the second half with Fargnoli's strike, but Keuka did not turn down the pressure in the waning minutes, outscoring the Express by a 9-2 margin.

Keuka outshot Wells by a 23-to-7 margin in the second half alone, firing home the majority of their shots in the final minutes of regulation time in an attempt to further increase their lead.

The Storm were led by Taylor Smith, who chipped in eight total points (5-3=8) while Caroline Arancio notched four strikes for Keuka.

For Wells, Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) dew the loss despite tying a career-high mark with 12 saves. Molly Hogan allowed only three goals on eight shots before yielding to Korie Fitzgerald, who made one save.

Wells returns to action this Saturday, Apr. 20 as they host SUNY Institute of Technology in an 11:00 a.m. contest at the South Athletic Field.
