Women's Lacrosse Saddled With Non-Conference Loss To SUNY Canton

AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) registered four points of offense for the Wells College women's lacrosse team in their 20-6 loss to the Kangaroos of SUNY Canton on Thursday at the South Athletic Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 3-8 overall while the Kangaroos improve to 9-4 on the season.

Fargnoli posted a goal and three assists for four points (1-3=4), leading the Express in point scoring. Sophomores Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) and Alaina Kelahan (New Woodstock, N.Y.) each scored two goals for Wells while classmate Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.) posted a goal to round out her team's scoring.

Wells opened the scoring on the afternoon as Fargnoli struck only three minutes into regulation time to place the hosts ahead. SUNY Canton, however, rattled off the next four goals to capture a 4-1 lead. The Express, however, saw two goals from Kelahan prior to a Roberson free position goal to knot the score at four aside with 14:40 left in the first half.

The Kangaroos, however, went on to score the game's next 10 goals to build a 14-4 lead to start the running clock. Roberson forced home a feed from freshman Shianne Stokes (Mays Landing, N.J.) to cut into the deficit and stop the running clock, but goals from Robyn Carroll and Joelle Percy re-established a strong lead for the visitors from SUNY Canton.

Wells goaltender Chelsea Dann (Flagstaff, Ariz.) allowed 17 goals on 29 total shots faced before yielding to freshman Brooke Spanbauer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) in the game's final 9:37. Spanbauer made two saves down the stretch for Wells. Becca Kieffer made five saves and limited the Express to only six goals through 60 minutes of play.

Tressa Goolden scored five goals and three assists for eight point (5-3=8) while Keeley Rice assisted six goals en route to a seven point performance (1-6=7). Two other players scored five points for SUNY Canton, who held the decisive 45-to-14 advantage in shots taken.

Wells will travel to Marcy, N.Y. this Saturday, Apr. 26, facing-off against North Eastern Athletic Conference rival SUNYIT at 3:00 p.m.
