Women's Lacrosse Survives Scare From Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College women's lacrosse team overcame an early 7-3 deficit to post a 16-12 victory over Lancaster Bible College on Saturday. With the come-from-behind victory, the Express even their overall record at 2-2 while improving to 2-1 within the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Lancaster Bible (0-7, 0-4 NEAC) remains without a win overall and within the league.

Senior Marina Fargnoli (Apalachin, N.Y.) scored five goals and two assists for seven points (5-2=7) and also picked up four draw controls. Junior Lexie Roberson (Winston-Salem, N.C.) scored four goals and scooped up three ground balls. Junior Alaina Kelahan (Cazenovia, N.Y.) scored three goals while sophomore Meredith Kadjeski (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) scooped up five ground balls to lead the Express.

In search of their first win in 12 games dating back to last season, Lancaster Bible racked up an easy 5-0 lead in the game's first 3:22 as Alyssa Wesner scored four of her eight goals on the afternoon during that timeframe. Wells countered with two strikes from Roberson and a goal from Kelahan to cut into the lead, but Lancaster Bible added two more goals to take a 7-3 advantage in the first 10 minutes of play.

The Express rallied to outscore the host Chargers in the final 20 minutes of the first half and scored three-straight goals with 6:04 left to tie the game at 10 heading into the half. Wells was outshot by Lancaster Bible in the first half (19-to-17) but Express goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) kept her team in the game with seven clutch saves.

Wells took the lead for good in the second half after outshooting the Chargers by a 26-to-9 margin in the final 30 minutes. Lancaster Bible took their final lead of the game following a free position goal with 18:35 left and the Express scored the game's final five goals to hold on for the important NEAC victory.

Doubet finished with a career-high 14 saves for Wells, earning her second victory of the year. Tia Alvarez made 17 saves for Lancaster Bible, facing 33 shots on the afternoon while allowing 16 goals.

The Express host Wilkes this Tuesday, Mar. 31 at 1:30 p.m. on the campus of Ithaca College.
