Women's Lacrosse Set Back By SUNY Canton, 21-2

CANTON, N.Y. – Junior Lindsay Achzet (Johnstown, N.Y.) scored her first collegiate goal as the Wells College women's lacrosse team was defeated by SUNY Canton on Saturday by a 21-2 final score. Wells falls to 2-5 on the young season while SUNY Canton improves to 8-3 following the non-conference contest.

The Express allowed their opponent to score 21 goals for the first time since the 2012 season where Wells' opponents did so on three separate occasions. The 19-goal margin of defeat was the team's most since a 19-0 blanking at the hands of Keuka last season on Apr. 22, 2014.

Wells was limited to only two free position goals on the afternoon, one from Achzet and one from junior Andrea Gould (Fulton, N.Y.). Achzet scored her team's first goal of the game, snapping a 10-0 run by SUNY Canton to open the game. Gould scored Wells' final goal of the game, converting a free position shot with 1:37 remaining in the opening stanza to round out her team's offensive performance on the afternoon.

SUNY Canton was bolstered by several players with 40-plus goals scored on the year, including Tressa Goolden and Robyn Carroll who each scored three goals for their teams. Katelynn Nutter and Caitlin LaVoie each racked up three goals for the Kangaroos.

Wells goaltender Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) allowed 21 goals on 27 total shots faced, drawing her fifth loss of the year. Becca Kieffer had an outstanding game for the Kangaroos, allowing only two goals while turning aside an impressive 11 shots.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Apr. 15 as they face-off against Morrisville State College at 4 p.m. on the road. The Mustangs lost to Keuka in the 2014 North Eastern Athletic Conference Championship game by a 12-11 margin on Sunday, May 4.
