Women's Lacrosse Edged In Overtime By Lancaster Bible

The Wells College women's lacrosse team visited Lancaster Bible College and lost 14-13 in overtime on Saturday, April 15. The host Chargers won the draw control to open the overtime period and scored 16 seconds into the extra session on a goal by Hannah Thompson.

Wells goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made 21 saves and Mackenzie Maloney had seven goals and two assists to highlight the afternoon for the Express.

Lancaster Bible scored the first goal of the game, but Wells scored five in a row in the first half to build a four-goal advantage. Maloney scored three and Jessica Burbank scored twice in the five-goal run.

The Express used another five-goal run in the second half to take a 12-11 lead with 11:27 remaining in the second half. Lancaster Bible scored two in a row over the next six minutes to pull ahead 13-12. Wells tied the score at 13-13 on a goal by Maloney with 5:40 remaining and that set up overtime.

Julia Smith had three goals and two assists. Jessica Burbank scored twice and Miranda Mingen also scored for Wells. Maloney now has 40 goals on the season.

Wells is 1-8 overall and 0-4 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Lancaster Bible College is 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the NEAC. Wells has five games remaining in the regular season, all at home, beginning with a game Tuesday, April 18 against Keuka College at 4 p.m.
