Bryn Athyn Pulls Away Late For Women's Lacrosse Win

The Wells College women's lacrosse team held a second-half lead but came out on the losing side of a 13-10 score against visiting Bryn Athyn College on Friday, April 28 at the Wells Turf Field in Aurora, N.Y.

The Express holds a 2-11 overall record and 1-7 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Bryn Athyn is 7-5 overall and 3-5 in the NEAC.

Bryn Athyn held an early lead, but Wells fought back to tie the score 4-4 on three goals from Savanah Connors and one from Mackenzie Maloney. The Lions controlled the final 14 minutes of the first half and led 8-5 at halftime.

Wells played its best stretch in the first 17 minutes of the second half. In that stretch, Wells outscored Bryn Athyn 5-1 and the Express led 10-9 with 13:08 remaining. The go-ahead goal was scored by Jessica Burbank on an assist from Renee Bartosz. That was the end of the scoring for Wells. Bryn Athyn scored the final four goals of the contest to claim the 13-10 victory.

Connors had a career-best four goals for Wells and added an assist. Mackenzie Maloney had three goals and three assists. Jessica Burbank scored twice, and Renee Bartosz had a goal and two assists. Maloney led Wells with nine draw controls. Julia Smith had three caused turnovers. Anna Bozeat made eight saves.

Wells wraps its regular season at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 against Penn State Abington.
