Women's Lacrosse Seniors Honored As Wells Falls To Abington

The Wells College women's lacrosse team recognized two seniors and one international student prior to the Saturday, April 29 season finale, and then fell by a score of 21-13 to Penn State Abington at the Wells Turf Field in Aurora, N.Y.

Wells wrapped up its season with a 2-12 overall record and 1-8 record in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Penn State Abington is 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the NEAC. Wells seniors Jessica Burbank and Ciara Tallman were honored, along with Japanese exchange student Rutsuko Ueda in a pregame ceremony.

Wells challenged the North Eastern Athletic Conference's second-place team for the first half and the Express held an 8-7 lead at the break.

Mackenzie Maloney had four first-half goals and four other players scored a single goal for the Express. Wells held its last lead of the game at 10-9 with 26 minutes remaining in the second half, but Abington answered with six consecutive goals.

The Express made a push in the middle portion of the second half with goals from Mackenzie Maloney, Renee Bartosz, and Julia Smith during a 3-1 run that brought Wells to within 16-13. Abington scored the last five goals of the game.

Maloney scored six goals and had two assists for the Express. Bartosz had three goals and three assists. Julia Smith scored twice and Alexius Stanton and Savanah Connors scored once each.

Miranda Mingen led Wells with three caused turnovers. Maloney had seven draw controls. Smith picked up five ground balls. Anna Bozeat made 13 saves.
