Big First Half Propels Women's Lacrosse To Win

The Wells College women's lacrosse team scored 10 goals in the first half and went on to a 15-13 victory over D'Youville College on Saturday, March 31 at the Wells Turf Field. It was the first home game of the season for the Express, which improved to 2-1 on the year. D'Youville is 2-4.

Wells got off to a fast start with five straight goals in the first seven minutes of the game. Mackenzie Maloney scored the first two goals, and Renee Bartosz added two more on either side of a goal from Savanah Connors during the run.

After D'Youville closed to within 7-3, Maloney, Julia Smith, and Chloe Marcus scored before halftime and the Express held a 10-3 lead at the break.

D'Youville went on a 7-3 run over the first 20 minutes of the second half, but Wells maintained its lead. Connors and Bartosz scored insurance goals down the stretch.

Bartosz had seven points on four goals and three assists. Maloney scored five goals. Smith had two goals and two assists and Connors had two goals and one assist. Marcus and Madison Beriman scored the other two goals for Wells.

Goalkeeper Anna Bozeat made seven saves. Four Wells players each had two caused turnovers. Maloney led the Express with seven ground balls and seven draw controls.

The Express is back in action Friday, April 6 for a 6 p.m. home game against SUNY Poly.
