Senior Spotlight: Savanah Connors

Senior Spotlight: Savanah Connors

With the cancellation of the remainder of the spring season and the winter championships, at least one Wells College senior spring student-athlete will be highlighted each weekend. Today's featured student-athlete is senior Savanah Connors from the women's lacrosse team.

Savanah is a psychology & criminal justice major from East Moriches, N.Y., that primarily played midfield for the Express this past season.

Wells head women's lacrosse coach Meg Milliman had the following to say about Savanah, "Savanah was not only one of the best leaders that this program has ever seen, but she was instrumental in bringing our team from a losing record to consecutive winning seasons with post-season play.  She is also the best example possible of our team motto; 'be a great teammate.'

Over her career at Wells, Savanah appeared in 34 games and started 32 and tallied 119 points from 92 goals and 27 assists. Savanah scooped 64 groundballs and caused 33 turnovers, while taking 112 draw controls. Her shooting accuracy was over 80 percent for shots on net with 161.

Savanah earned her first North Eastern Athletic Association women's lacrosse postseason honor in 2018 as a member of the conference's third team. Last season, offensively she scored five or more points in the majority of Express games to garner first-team NEAC honors.

During the shortened 2020 season, Savanah appeared in both games as a starter with seven points from five goals and a pair of assists with five groundballs, one caused turnover, five draw controls and eight shots on goal – five of which found the back of the net.

Why did you choose Wells College?

It was between Wells and a school down south. My mother had just adopted a baby and I wanted to stay closer to home. Wells College didn't have many initial appealing aspects to me (I wanted a big school with lots of people), but as soon as I moved in, I knew it was home.

What is your favorite memory at Wells College as a student-athlete?

My favorite memories as a student athlete come from the 2020 team after we would complete something, we didn't think we could. The coaching staff would give us run tests that you wouldn't think were possible but once everybody finished, it was an indescribable feeling.

What are your plans after Wells College?

I've applied to a couple different police departments and I'm hoping to get my foot in the door in Rochester Police Department.

What advice would you give to the next person wearing your number?

DON'T TAKE IT FOR GRANTED. It's so easy to just go through the motions, especially during preseason and fall ball, but those could be the last practices you will ever partake in.

If you had a favorite class during your time at Wells College, what was it and why was it your favorite?

I enjoyed most of my classes at Wells College. I loved my sports management class because while learning a lot, it was also a time to vent with other athletes to someone who could make changes and was actually listening.

What will you miss the most about being a student-athlete at Wells College?

Coaches picking on me during practice, but I look forward to our friendship and sitting for hours in the hall with my team just chatting about everything.
