WOMEN FALL TO CAZENOVIA

Aurora, NY-Despite spending most of the second half in the Wildcats offensive zone, the Wells College Women's Soccer Team could not score the equalizer as Cazenovia College staved off a late game rally to defeat the Express 2-1 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference game Tuesday at Wells. The Express were led by Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles, NY) who finished with three shots and a goal. The Wildcats were led by Courtney Stewart (DeWitt, NY) who had a goal and an assist on the day.

Cazenovia got the scoring started early when an Alyssa Tidd (Alexandria Bay, NY) pass to Stewart found the back of the net just three-minutes into the first half to give the Wildcats and early 1-0 lead. The score would stay the same and the Express would enter the half down by a goal. Cazenovia added the eventual game winning goal 20-minutes into the second half as Noelle Shapiro (Glenwood, NY) converted a pass from Stewart that slid by a diving Claire Petersen (Derby, NY), seven saves, to give the Wildcats a 2-0 edge. Less than a minute later Lotkowictz could give the Express their first and only goal of the game on a scramble in front of the net.

Although the Express would spend the final minutes of the second half in the Wildcats offensive zone they could not put one past goalie Britney Westcott (Oneonta, NY) who finished with 12 saves on the day.

With the loss the Express fall to 3-3-0 (0-1-0 NEAC) while the Wildcats improve to 2-3-1 (1-0-1 NEAC).

The Express will next play at home on Saturday, September 20, at 11:00 am. against Penn-St. Harrisburg.
