Women's Soccer Sinks SUNY Maritime

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. - Junior Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles, NY) had a goal and an assist and senior goalie Claire Petersen (Derby, NY) finished with eight saves as the Wells College Women's Soccer Team (2-1-0) defeated SUNY-Maritime (0-3-0) 3-0 Saturday in Throggs Neck, NY. Sophomores Seyda Akyuz (DeWitt, NY) and Michaela Wilson (Northfield, NJ) each tallied goals for Wells.

Action was slow in the beginning, with neither team able to advance the ball very far into their offensive half. Wilson got the scoring started on a breakaway pass from Lotkowictz that was placed perfectly over the Privateer defensive line to give Wells a 1-0 lead at the 26:44 mark of the first half. Lotkowictz would find herself on the scoring sheet again as she put one past Maritime goalie Alicia Schmidt, on a pass from freshmen Juli Vibbard (Burlington Falls, NY), to give Wells a 2-0 lead with just under three minutes left in the first half.

Wells would never look back as Akyuz would add the finishing touches with her unassisted goal in the 83rd minute of the game to extend the lead to 3-0. Wells as a team finished with 29 shots on the day.

The Women's Soccer team will next play the College of St. Elizabeth on Sunday, September 7, at 2:00 pm in Morristown, NJ.
