EXPRESS FALL TO D'YOUVILLE

Aurora, NY –The Wells College women's soccer team let an early lead slip away as the D'Youville College Spartans went on to defeat the Express 4-2 Monday afternoon at Wells. Stephanie Lozzi paced the Spartans with two goals and one assist. Emily Lotkowictz (Skaneateles) and Samantha Civilette (Fredonia) each tallied a goal for the Express who, with the loss, fall to 1-4 on the year while the Spartans improve to 2-3.

Lotkowictz put the Express up early in the first half as she lofted a shot over the head of Spartan keeper Sandra McKeen for a 1-0 lead. Lozzi would tie the game up at 30:10 as she broke up a defensive clear, opening up a breakaway shot that would slip by goalie Savannah Duh to knot the game up at one. The Spartans would go up seven-minutes later as Libby Wein blasted a shot top corner giving D'Youville the 2-1 lead headed into the half.

The Spartans would blow the game open early in the second half, netting two goals in the first five minutes of the half extending their lead to 4-1. Lotkowictz would nearly score her second goal of the game, but her shot bounced off the far post out to Civilette who finished the play by tipping the rebound in trimming the lead to 4-2 with 35-minutes remaining. The Express, who finished with eight shots in the second half, would pressure the Spartans, but were unable to convert on any scoring chances as D'Youville would use the clock to their advantage to run the game out.

The Spartans held a 13-10 advantage in shots while both teams finished with three corners in the game.

The Express will next open up NEAC conference play when they travel to Penn. St. Harrisburg on Saturday, September 19th at 2:00 pm in Harrisburg, PA.
