WELLS FALLS TO KEUKA IN OVERTIME

(Aurora, N.Y.)─ Nicole Sharik (Corfu, N.Y./Pembroke) scored her second goal of the game with 1:28 to play in the first overtime, snapping a 1-1 deadlock and propelling the Keuka College Storm to a 2-1 victory over the Wells College Express in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) women's soccer action Saturday afternoon in Aurora. Rebecca Furman (Parkland, Fla./Marjory Stoneman) scored the lone goal for the Express, while Megan Lawrence (Scipio Center, N.Y./Cayuga C.C.) finished with eight saves. The loss drops the Express to 4-11-1 (4-5 NEAC), while the Storm improve to 7-4-2 (7-1-1).

Wells came out playing a frustrating defense, holding the Storm to just four shots on net in the first half. The Express were as equally frustrating on the offensive side of the ball, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Things came together for the Express just before end of the first half as Furman received a pass from midfield, settled at the top of the 18, and delivered a shot to the upper left corner of the goal for a 1-0 lead at 39:31.

Keuka picked up the pressure in the second half, scoring 1:39 into the half on goal by Sharick as the Storm began to build momentum. Despite the early goal and an 18-1 shot differential, the Express were able to hold off Keuka the remainder of the half as the game headed into extra time.

The Storm controlled much of the overtime and with 1:28 remaining Sharick received a pass from Elly Disbrow (Branchport, N.Y./Penn Yan) and found the back of the net for the 2-1 overtime victory. Ashley Vail (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) earned the victory in net for the Storm finishing with two saves.

Wells returns to action next against NEAC opponent Cazenovia College on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. in Cazenovia.
