EXPRESS SUFFER ROAD LOSS AT SUNYIT

(Utica, N.Y.)─ The SUNYIT women's soccer team scored four goals in the second half to defeat the Wells College Express 4-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference action Saturday in Utica. Alanna Verderber (Sharon Springs, N.Y./Sharon Springs), Rachel Mattraw (Chaumont, N.Y./Lyme Central), and Hillary Setford (Elmira, N.Y./Southside) all scored for the Express, while Megan Lawrence (Scipion Center, N.Y./Cayuga C.C.) finished with 12 saves in goal.  The loss drops Wells to 2-4 in the NEAC and 2-9-1 overall, while the Wildcats improve to 8-0 in the NEAC and 10-3 overall.

Wells held a 1-0 lead at intermission after Verderber scored an unassisted goal at the 24-minute mark, which would be the only score of the half.

SUNYIT came out aggressive in the second half, outshooting Wells 17-3.  The Wildcats would tie the game 10 minutes into the second half when freshman Amanda Bohne (Clay, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) found the back of the net on assists from seniors Cassandra Moss (Troy, NY/Catholic Central) and Lauryne Zinter (Stillwater, NY/Stillwater), while Moss would then give SUNYIT the lead five minutes later on an unassisted goal at 59:50.  Two consecutive goals by junior Kelley Waskiewicz (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) at the 78-minute mark and 80-minute mark, respectively, would give the Wildcats a commanding 4-1 lead.

Wells kept it close, however, as Setford scored at 86:16 and Mattraw added a goal on a free kick three minutes later to put the score at 4-3, but SUNYIT would kill the last minute of play and secure the victory.

The Express return to action on Wednesday as they travel to take on St. John Fisher at 7:00 p.m. in Rochester.
