WELLS WOMEN’S SOCCER ROUTS GALLAUDET

AURORA, N.Y. – Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) scored three first half goals as the Wells College women's soccer team went on to rout the visiting Gallaudet University Bison 7-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) action on Sunday afternoon in Aurora. With the victory the Express improve to 4-6 (2-2 NEAC) while the Bison fall to 0-7 (0-2 NEAC).

Altogether four different Express players found the back of the net. Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) added two goals and one assist, Mariana Vinci Germar (Elkins, N.H.) scored her first career goal and Megan Lawrence (Auburn, N.Y.) added a late goal to round out the scoring for Wells. Rachel Mattraw (Chaumont, N.Y.) and Cassie Smythe (Eden, N.Y.) split time in goal for Wells. Mattraw finished with one save while Smythe came up with two saves.

Stone scored her first of three straight goals less than ten minutes into play. Charlee Weidman (New Berlin, N.Y.) lofted a ball over the Bison defense on to the foot of Stone who blasted a shot past Gallaudet goalie Casey McCullough (Oceanside, Calif.) for a 1-0 lead. Stone scored ten minutes later. This time blocking a clear attempt by the Bison defense and sending a shot into the far left netting for a 2-0 Wells lead. Stone completed her hat trick in just the 24^th minute of play. Blanford sent a corner kick into the top of the box and Stone came streaking in, redirecting the ball out of mid-air, past McCullough (11 saves), for her third straight goal and 3-0 Wells lead.

The Express continued to play on the offensive. Stone set up Blanford, sending a low pass through an open seam in the Bison defense to Blanford, who baited the goalie to the left side, and sent a low drive to the right hand side of the goal for a 4-0 lead heading into the break.

Gallaudet came out on the attack early in the second half. Britny Latham (Cleveland, Tenn.) broke into the offensive zone and beat the Express defense but her point blank shot would be stopped by Smythe as the Bison remained scoreless.

The Express continued to dominate in the offensive zone in the second. Breaking in down the right hand side of the Bison's zone, Vinci Germar lofted a curling shot over the outstretched fingers of McCullough into the goal for a 5-0 lead.

Lawrence added a goal in the 73^rd minute off a pass from Alanna Verderber (Sharon Springs, N.Y.) and Blanford would be credited with her second goal of the game as her corner kick deflected off a Bison defender and into goal for the seventh and final goal of the game in the 83^rd minute.

The Express controlled the pace of the game from start to finish, out shooting the Bison 34-10 and holding the advantage in corner kicks 3-2.

The Express return to action on Saturday, October 1 when they travel to take on NEAC foe Lancaster Bible at 4 p.m. in Lancaster, Pa.
