Women’s Soccer Grounded By Giants, 3-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite a second half strike by sophomore midfielder Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.), the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 3-1 season opening loss to the Giants of Keystone College Friday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the non-conference victory, the Giants improve to 1-0 on the season while the Express fall to 0-1 overall.

Forward Olivia Kashuba scored three goals for the Giants, including what proved to be the game-winning goal only 20:19 into the contest. Following a cross ball sent forward by Ashley Smith, Kashuba got behind the defense and picked the top of the crossbar for the second Giants goal of the game.

Tucker's third career goal, scored at 56:16 of the second half, cut the Giants lead in half, but Kashuba capped off the hat trick after converting a feed from Samantha Littleford in the 70th minute to place the victory out of reach for the Express.

In her first collegiate women's soccer game, netminder Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) drew the loss, allowing three goals on six shots. Rebecca Dinelli made six saves for the Giants while allowing only one goal as the Express out-shot their opponent by a 15-to-11 margin in the game.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Sept. 5 as they host the Hawks of Hilbert College in a 3:00 p.m. tilt at the North Athletic Field.
