Nittany Lions Silence Express, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – Despite the Express goaltenders combining for 12 saves, the Wells College women's soccer team fell to the Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks by a 5-0 final score Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express fall to 1-2 on the season while the Nittany Lions collect their first victory of the season to improve to 1-2.

Sara Conover collected the first of three goals for the Nittany Lions only 20 seconds into the contest, carrying the ball up the left sideline and beating Express goaltender Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) to lift Penn State Berks to a 1-0 lead of which they would not relinquish. Meaghan Daly closed out the first half with a goal, increasing the lead to two by forcing home a Katie Warner feed. A Caitlin Diebler goal preceded Conover's final two strikes of the game to account for the scoring.

The Express could only manage three shots on goal as Sara Rocker (Scipio Center, N.Y.), Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) and Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.) each found their way onto the scoresheet. Conover led all Nittany Lions with five shots on net, converting on three of those chances.

Roser (1-2) drew her second loss of the season, allowing five goals on 14 shots and yielded to senior Kelly Cornwell (Caledonia, N.Y.) in the waning minutes. Cornwell made three saves while allowing zero goals in her first collegiate appearance. Savannah Kramer (1-2) collected her first victory in goal for the Nittany Lions, making three saves before giving way to Sarah Elmontacir for the final 10 minutes of regulation.

The Express return to action Sunday, Sept. 9 as they host the Nittany Lions of Penn State Abington in a 1:00 p.m. tilt at the North Athletic Field.
