Nittany Lions Race Past Express, 7-1

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Despite freshman Gianna Kerr (Branford, Conn.) scoring her first collegiate goal, the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 7-1 loss against the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 2-7 overall (1-4 NEAC) while the Nittany Lions improve to 4-3 overall and remain undefeated in conference play (3-0).

Penn State Harrisburg scored two goals in the first half and carried a 2-0 lead into the second half of play before striking for five goals in the second stanza. On the afternoon, Nikki Francis scored both her fourth and fifth goals of the season alongside five other goal scorers for the Nittany Lions.

For the Express, Kerr scored her first collegiate goal, an unassisted strike, in the 74th minute to cut the score to 6-1. Alongside Kerr, sophomore Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.)collected the other Wells College shot on goal in the game.

Wells goaltender Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) faced a whopping 27 shots on goal, turning aside 20 shots on net from the Nittany Lions. For the Nittany Lions, Mackenzie Gates halted one of two shots on goal that she saw from the Express offense.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 29 as they host the Chargers of Lancaster Bible College in a 12:00 p.m. contest.
