AURORA, N.Y. – Midfielder Savannah Tucker (Rochester, N.Y.) scored two goals and goalkeeper Ashley Roser (Taberg, N.Y.) made six saves as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 5-0 shutout victory over the Fighting Tigers of SUNY Cobleskill Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. The Express conclude their season with an overall record of 7-12 (5-7 NEAC) while the Fighting Tigers wrap up their year with an overall record of 3-14 (3-9 NEAC).
Freshman Karley Raczynski (Fonda, N.Y.) scored her third goal of the season at 7:50, granting the Express a lead which they would not relinquish. Following a corner kick by Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.), the ball bounced around the Cobleskill goal mouth until it was forced home by Raczynski for the strike. Chelsey Martinelli (Chichester, N.H.) scored her goal in similar fashion, tapping home a goal past Fighting Tigers goaltender Bethany Reynolds for her fourth tally of the year.
Tucker struck for the next two Express goals, scoring her sixth and seventh goals within the first 16 minutes of the second half. Her first goal was scored unassisted as she weaved her way through the Fighting Tigers defense, beat the last man, and hammered the ball past Reynolds for the strike. Hiltbrand scored her third goal in as many games in the game's 70th minute, blasting home a free kick opportunity for the Express. She concludes her season with at least two points in four of her final five games of the season.
Roser (7-12) earns her seventh victory of the year, turning aside all six shots on goal that she faced. Roser collected her third career shutout and her third career blanking this season. Reynolds (2-9) draws her ninth loss of the year, allowing five goals on 13 shots on net.
In a pre-game ceremony, graduating senior student-athletes Lauren Dunster (Auburn, N.Y.), Paige Stone (Madison, N.Y.) and Kelly Cornwell (Caledonia, N.Y.) were honored for their contributions to the Wells College women's soccer team prior to their final career game.
