Women’s Soccer Blanked By D’Youville, 9-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 9-0 loss to the Spartans of D'Youville College Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express (1-6) pick up their sixth loss of the season while the Spartans improve to 4-2-2 overall on the year. Wells had not allowed nine goals to an opponent dating back to Oct. 7, 2005, a 9-0 loss to Russell Sage.

Melissa LaVere's goal within the first minute of action was all the Spartans needed as they went on to score nine total goals while limiting Wells to only three shots on goal. Collectively, Danielle Gehen recorded five points off of two goals and an assist (2-1=5) while Melissa LaVere posted a goal and an assist. Rebecca Alvira, Colleen Wiechec, Jami Cammilleri, Rachel Pandolfe and Rachel Hermanski also added goals for the visitors. Wells also committed an own goal in the 12th minute of play to grant D'Youville a 4-0 lead.

Sophomore Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) attempted to spark a Wells comeback, singlehandedly firing off seven shots while placing two on net. Classmate Karley Raczynski (Fonda, N.Y.) also blasted a shot on net that was turned aside by the Spartans goalkeeper.

Wells goalkeeper Kylie Nishioka (Encinitas, Calif.) allowed nine goals on 18 shots, making nine saves in the game. Christina Ventresca went the distance for D'Youville turning aside all three shots on goal that she faced to earn the shutout.

The Express return to action Saturday, Sept. 28 as they host the Phoenix of Wilson College in a 2:00 p.m. contest at the North Athletic Field.
