Women’s Soccer Dropped By Lancaster Bible, 2-0

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Wells College women's soccer team mustered only five total shots en route to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Lancaster Bible College Friday afternoon at Charger Field. With the loss, Wells falls to 3-8 overall (3-2 NEAC) and drops their second North Eastern Athletic Conference contest of the season. The Chargers improve to 7-3 overall and to 5-1 in league play.

Monica Hornig scored her eighth goal of the season at 26:19 of the first half, granting Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead. From 20 yards out, Horning was able to chip the ball over the head of Express netminder Olivia Baum (Summerville, S.C.) for the only goal the hosts would need. Bethany Stein later added insurance, racking up her eighth goal of the year at 59:42 after firing a blast that eluded the grasp of Baum.

Midfielder Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) led the Express in shots taken, firing off two shots on goal that were harmlessly halted by Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing. Hiltbrand has led the Express in shots taken across the past three games, firing 29 cumulative shots with the opposing defenses limiting her to only 12 shots on net.

Baum (2-1) draws her first collegiate loss in goal for Wells, allowing two goals on 16 shots en route to a career-high 14 saves. Scheuing (7-3) earned the shutout by stopping all three shots on net that she faced.

Wells returns to action Monday, Oct. 7 as they face-off against the Saxons of Alfred University in a 7:00 p.m. road contest.
