Women’s Soccer Defeated By Penn St.-Berks

READING, Pa. - The Wells College women's soccer team posted an 11-0 loss to the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Berks Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Express fall to 4-13 overall on the year and to 4-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Nittany Lions remain undefeated in league play (11-0) and boost their overall record to 14-3-1.

The Nittany Lions scored only 56 seconds into the contest as Jen Kessler scored the only goal her team would need in the contest. Lizzie Mummau racked up three goals to lead the team, while Ellie McKinstry, Cristen French and Dana Sarcinello each added two goals for the hosts.

Five different Nittany Lions recorded two assists en route to the victory. Penn St.-Berks outshot the Express by a combined 27-to-3 margin in the game. The Express have not allowed 11 goals in a game since Sept. 28, 2004, a 13-0 loss to Keuka College, which is tied for the largest margin of defeat in program history.

Wells goalkeeper Olivia Baum (Summerville, S.C.) made nine saves in the losing effort. Savannah Cramer and Sarah Elmontacir split time in the Berks goal – Cramer made the save on the lone Wells shot on goal.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 26 as they host Cazenovia College in a 2:00 p.m. contest on Senior Day. Both of the team's seniors, Chelsey Martinelli (Chichester, N.H.) and Lindsey Bush (Averill Park, N.Y.), will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
