Baum Stops 15 In 2-0 Loss to Cazenovia

SENIOR DAY GAME PROGRAM

AURORA, N.Y. – Goalkeeper Olivia Baum (Summerville, S.C.) made 15 saves as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 2-0 loss to the Wildcats of Cazenovia College Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express fall to 4-14 overall on the year and to 4-7 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Wildcats earn a playoff berth with their eighth overall victory (8-9) and their seventh within league play (7-4).

Despite a 0-0 halftime score, Cazenovia utilized two second half goals by Taylor Lynch to take the lead for good. Lynch scored her first goal of the game after a Wells defender upended the sprinting forward within the goal box and was granted a penalty kick. Lynch fired a blast toward the right post that eluded the grasp of Baum to give her team the lead. Her second goal, a header over Baum's reach, was her 11th goal of the season.

Wells saw three shots on goal from sophomore Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) and one from junior Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.). Cazenovia outshot the Express by a 32-to-9 margin and held a decisive 13-to-6 edge in corner kicks – the Wildcats had seven in the second half alone opposed to zero for Wells.

Baum was saddled with her sixth loss of the season, allowing two goals on 17 total shots. Breanne Warner turned aside all four shots on net that she faced.

Seniors Chelsey Martinelli (Chichester, N.H.) and Lindsey Bush (Averill Park, N.Y.) were honored in a pre-game ceremony for their lengthy list of contributions to the program in their four years at Wells.

The Express return to action tomorrow, Oct. 27, as they host Alfred State College in a non-conference tilt to close out their season. The first whistle is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
