Women’s Soccer Silenced In Season Finale

AURORA, N.Y. – Goalkeeper Olivia Baum (Summerville, S.C.) made 16 saves as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 3-0 loss to the Pioneers of Alfred State College Sunday afternoon at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express conclude their season with a 4-15 overall on the year and a 4-7 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Alfred State, an NJCAA school in transition to NCAA Division III, improves to 11-4-1 overall on the season.

Keri Teufel and Hunter Pierce scored unassisted goals for the Pioneers within the first half, elevating the guests to a 2-0 halftime lead. Hannah Holmok was able to fire home a feed from Jessa Rodrigues in the 57th minute to add insurance for Alfred State in the later stages of the contest.

After firing only one shot in the first half, Wells registered seven shots in the second stanza – junior Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) had four total, including a team-best two shots on goal. The Pioneers had a 7-to-3 edge in corner kicks with each team tied with three apiece in the second half.

Baum has registered double-digit save totals in six of her 10 career games as a goalkeeper – this weekend alone, Baum has registered 31 total saves across her previous two games. Krista DeCarlo earned the start for Alfred State, making four saves before yielding to Spela Sluga in the game's final 10:45.
