Women's Soccer Set Back By Hartwick, 5-0

AURORA, N.Y. – The Wells College women's soccer team posted a 5-0 loss to Hartwick College at the North Athletic Field on Sunday. With the loss, Wells drops to 5-6 overall on the year while Hartwick improves to an impressive 7-2-1 following the non-conference tilt.

Sierra Bentley scored three of her team's four first half goals to pace the Hartwick offense. After being set up by Kylie Thayer on the first goal of the game at 7:22, Bentley struck again after falling to the ground and forcing the ball past Wells backstop Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) only 2:05 later. Thayer once again helped out her team's offense, assisting Casey Boucher's bicycle-kick goal at 21:17 to increase the lead to 3-0.

Bentley struck for the third time at 38:21, heading home a long-range blast from Megan McGillycuddy at the top of the box to further increase the lead. McGillycuddy added her first goal of the season for Hartwick at 86:51, bending home a corner kick that eluded the grasp of the Wells goalkeeper for the team's fifth goal of the tilt.

Hartwick outshot the host Express by a 31-to-4 margin through 90 minutes while the visitors also held the decisive 12-to-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Doubet earned the loss for Wells, allowing three goals on four shots faced on the afternoon. Freshman Abbigail Kime (Geneva, N.Y.) replaced Doubet after the first 24:24, allowing two goals while also making six saves between the posts. The goalkeeping tandem of Annie Millar and Alley Maurer was not forced to make a save for Hartwick.

The Express return to action Wednesday, Oct. 8 as they travel to Morrisville State College for a 4 p.m. contest.
