Women’s Soccer Set Back By Lancaster Bible, 4-1

AURORA, N.Y. – Junior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) became only the ninth player in program history to reach 10 goals in a season en route to her team's 4-1 loss to Lancaster Bible College on Friday at the North Athletic Field. With the loss, the Express (5-10, 5-6 NEAC) found themselves eliminated from postseason contention while the Chargers improve to 12-4 overall and to 9-2 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Trailing by a 3-0 margin, Hiltbrand scored her 10th goal of the season after a shot from freshman Sarah Halstead (Fulton, N.Y.) rang off the crossbar. In heavy crease traffic, Hiltbrand fought through and scored the goal to cut into the visitors lead. She is the first player to reach double-digit goals since Paige Stone '12 and teammate Shannon Blanford (Fayetteville, N.Y.) each reached 10 goals in 2011.

Naomi Otis scored the first goal of the game at 3:41 after a Wells player turned the ball over near the left corner flag. Emily Beltran fed a nifty pass through the Express defense and Otis forced home the ball for her team's first strike. Alyssa Wesner made it 2-0 under three minutes later after kicking home an Abby Groff pass only 6:13 into the contest.

Lancaster Bible's Bethany Conklin scored her first goal of the season at 11:25, bending home a corner kick that the officials ruled just crossed over the goal line. Despite Hiltbrand's goal in the 33rd minute, Wesner's second goal of the game added insurance at 77:58. A Conklin corner kick reached the ground directly in the middle of the box and a sprinting Wesner beat the Wells defense for her team's fourth goal of the game.

Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Cortland, N.Y.) drew the loss despite making seven saves. Kaitlyn Scheuing earned the win for Lancaster Bible, allowing one goal on six shots. The Chargers posted a whopping 17 corner kicks as they kept a constant pressure on the Express backfield.

The Express return to action Saturday, Oct. 25 as they host the Nittany Lions of Penn St.-Berks at 1 p.m. on Senior Day. The team will honor its two graduating senior student-athletes, Blanford and Charlee Weidman (New Berlin, N.Y.), with a pre-game ceremony.
