Women's Soccer Defeated By Alfred St., 2-1

ALFRED, N.Y. – Senior Heather Hiltbrand (Fayetteville, N.Y.) scored her second goal of the young season as the Wells College women's soccer team posted a 2-1 loss to Alfred State College on Saturday. Wells dips to 0-3 while the Pioneers move to 2-1 overall following the non-conference tilt.

Trailing by a 2-0 margin, Hiltbrand hammered home a free kick following an Alfred State foul to halve the hosts' advantage. Wells was bound to cash in on a free kick opportunity as the goal, scored in the 77th minute of play, came on the 14th foul by the Pioneers on the afternoon. Wells, on the contrary, committed only three fouls in 90 minutes of action while Alfred State finished with 16 infractions.

Haley Russell put Alfred State up by a 1-0 margin, collecting a long pass from Keri Teufel and beating Wells backstop Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) on a breakaway. Just under 10 minutes later, Michayla Salatel gained control of a loose ball and beat Doubet to lift her team to a 2-0 lead.

Doubet was saddled with the loss, making six saves on eight shots faced. Allison Danielak turned aside seven shots, allowing the goal to Hiltbrand following the Alfred State infraction.

Wells will face-off against Alfred this Sunday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. on the road.
