Ososkalo's Penalty Kick Lifts Women's Soccer vs. Medaille

AURORA, N.Y. – Sophomore Yanna Ososkalo (Lyme, N.Y.) converted a penalty kick in the 75th minute to lift the Wells College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Medaille College on Tuesday at the South Athletic Field. Wells moves to 1-4 overall on the year while Medaille remains in search of their first victory of the campaign.

With the game tied at one aside in the 75th minute, Ososkalo carried the ball into the box where she was upended by Medaille goalkeeper Alea Wade. Issued the penalty kick, Ososkalo buried it behind Wade for the go-ahead goal. Ososkalo's goal was the pinnacle of a fast and furious second half for the Express that saw the hosts outshoot the Mavericks by a 16-to-8 margin in the final 45 minutes alone.

Medaille jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 32:35 as Jaime Michalewski tapped home the ball into a wide-open goal following a solid effort from Mackenzie Berger to carry the ball around the outstretched Wells goalkeeper. Only 2:29 into the second half, however, Amber Welsh scored the first goal of her Wells career by tapping home a misguided clearing attempt by Medaille to tie the game.

Wells keeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.) earned the win for the Express, the fifth of her career, by making one save on two shots. Alea Wade made 11 saves on 13 total shots, drawing the loss.

Wells returns to action this Sunday, Sept. 13 as they host D'Youville at 3:30 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
