Late Goals Topple Women's Soccer vs. SUNY Poly

AURORA, N.Y. – After a scoreless opening 79 minutes of regulation time, two quick goals sent the Wells College women's soccer team to a 2-0 loss to the Wildcats from the SUNY Polytechnic Institute on Saturday. The Express move to 5-11 overall on the year and to 4-5 within North Eastern Athletic Conference play while the visiting Wildcats move to 7-5-2 on the year and to 5-1-1 within the league.

With heavy crease traffic, Julia Jaikin scored her seventh goal of the season at 80:44 to put the Wildcats on top for good. After an initial shot stop by Wells goalkeeper Quinn Doubet (Virgil, N.Y.), Jaikin picked up the loose ball and beat the Express defense for the eventual game-winning goal. Brittany Waterbury added insurance for the Wildcats only 2:55 later, scoring into the vacant left side of the Wells goal.

The Express and Wildcats played a competitive first half of play as SUNY Poly held only the slightest of advantages in shots, 7-to-6. However, the Wells offense accounted for only three of the second half's 11 total shots as the Wildcats assumed control of the game. In a physical game, the Express committed only one foul while SUNY Poly was responsible for seven infractions.

Doubet drew the loss, allowing two goals on five shots, while Angela Bartlett turned aside all four shots against for SUNY Poly.

The Express are right back at it on Sunday, Oct. 18 as they welcome the Fighting Tigers from SUNY Cobleskill at 2:15 p.m. on the South Athletic Field.
