Offense sparks women's soccer win at Cobleskill

The Wells College women's soccer team won in convincing fashion with a 7-0 victory at SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday, Sept. 17. The Express scored four times in the first half and added three goals in the second half of the North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.

Wells improved to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the NEAC. Cobleskill is 1-4-0 and 0-3-0 in the conference.

Yanna Ososkalo opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a breakaway through the Cobleskill defense. Wells doubled its lead 10 minutes later when Emma Booth scored on the weakside of the Cobleskill defense on a cross from Amber Welsh, who earned the assist.

Mackenzie Maloney scored on another assist from Welsh in the 34th minute, and then Maloney set up the fourth goal for the Express with an assist on Autumn McLain's goal that came on a corner kick in the 38th minute.

Wells had a 19-1 advantage in shots in the first half.

Second-half goals from McLain, Ososkalo, and Maloney accounted for the 7-0 final.

Starting goalkeeper Karlie Maloney made two saves in 50 minutes of action. Kayleigh Hurley (two saves) and Quinn Doubet (one save) played the final 40 minutes of the game.

It was the largest margin of victory for Wells since a 9-1 win at the College of St. Elizabeth on Oct. 10, 2015.

Wells returns to action Sunday, Sept. 18 at SUNY Polytechnic Institute at noon.
