Conference-leading Penn State-Berks knocks off Wells Women's Soccer

The Wells College women's soccer team took the field against the first-place Penn State-Berks Nittany Lions on Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Wells Turf Field, and Berks remained perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference with an 8-1 win over Wells. Penn State-Berks improved to 11-2-1 overall and 10-0-0 in the NEAC. Wells is 9-5-0 and 6-4-0 in the conference.

The visitors scored twice in the early part of the first half, but Wells pulled back a goal in the 30th minute when Amber Welsh made a diagonal pass from the midfield to Emma Booth cutting in on the left side of the penalty area. Booth slotted a shot across the face of goal inside the right post for her 14th goal of the season.

Berks added two more goals before halftime, and scored four times in the second half to account for the 8-1 final score. Caitlin Golden had three goals and an assist for Penn State-Berks.

Wells goalkeeper Karlie Maloney made 11 saves.

The Express continues NEAC play next weekend with another set of weekend home games. Wells hosts Penn State-Abington on Saturday, Oct. 22 and Bryn Athyn on Sunday, Oct. 23. Both games begin at noon at the Wells Turf Field.
