Women's Soccer Drops Double-OT Heartbreaker

The Wells College women's soccer team fell in double overtime by a 3-2 score against Penn State-Abington on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Wells Turf Field. The match was contested under adverse weather conditions with a strong wind blowing throughout the contest and rain falling intermittently. Penn State-Abington is 9-5-0 overall and 8-3-0 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference. Wells is 9-6-0 and 6-5-0 in the NEAC.

Penn State-Abington took a 1-0 lead with a lofted goal in the first half, but Wells came back to tie the score. On an attacking move by Yanna Ososkalo, a pair of Abington defenders tackled her in the penalty area and a penalty kick was awarded. Erin Persons converted the PK to tie the score, her fourth goal of the year.

Before the first half ended, Penn State-Abington scored again, with Michelle Latronica scoring her second goal of the game.

Ososkalo tied the score for Wells in the second half, as she dribbled up the right side of the defense and slotted a low shot through to the left corner. It was the seventh goal of the season for Ososkalo.

Abington won the match with a goal in the second of two 10-minute overtime periods. Off of a corner kick, there was a scramble in front of the net and Emily Cimilluca poked the ball over the line for the game-winner.

Wells goalkeeper Karlie Maloney made six saves.

The Express returns to action Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon at home against Bryn Athyn College. Wells enters the match tied for seventh in the NEAC, with the top seven conference teams qualifying for the playoffs. Prior to the match, the four seniors on the Wells roster will be recognized prior to the final regular-season home game of their careers.
