Comeback Effort For Women's Soccer Foiled In Overtime

The Wells College women's soccer team fell in an overtime contest on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Elmira College. Elmira scored 93 seconds into overtime to claim the 3-2 victory. The Soaring Eagles improved to 1-5-0 on the year and Wells stands at 2-4-0.

Wells opened the scoring in the 15th minute when Mackenzie Maloney attacked from the left side, and crossed a pass past the Elmira goalkeeper for Tayler Nichols to score from the goal line on an easy redirection.

Elmira tied the score in the 32nd minute on an unassisted goal by Jordyn Rousselle. The game was tied 1-1 at halftime. Elmira had an 11-7 shots advantage after the opening 45 minutes.

Elmira took its first lead of the match in the 64th minute, but Wells came back to tie the score in the closing minutes of the second half. Yanna Ososkalo slotted a through pass to Madison Beriman, who scored 1-on-1 against the Elmira goalkeeper with just 2:18 remaining in the second half.

Elmira won the game in the opening minutes of the overtime period, on the second goal of the match for Rousselle.

Wells had a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks for the game and Elmira outshot Wells 24-12.

Express goalkeeper Quinn Doubet made 13 saves.

Wells is back in action Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Penn College. It will be the first game of the year in the North Eastern Athletic Conference for the Express.
