Overtime Win For Wells Women's Soccer

The Wells College women's soccer team claimed an exciting 1-0 victory in overtime at SUNY Canton in the season-opening match of the 2018 season on Friday, August 31.

The match-winning goal came just two minutes, 30 seconds into the overtime period. Carley Ryan made a pass from the middle of the penalty area over to the left post, where Mackenzie Maloney scored the decisive goal.

Kayleigh Hurley earned the shutout victory as the Wells goalkeeper with six saves in the match. Four of her saves came in the second half.

Wells held a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but Canton outshot Wells 8-3 in the second half. The only shot of overtime was the Maloney goal. Erin Persons led Wells with six shots. Maloney had five and Ryan had two.

It is the fourth year in a row that Wells has opened its season against SUNY Canton. The Express has won the last three meetings.

The Express is back in action Wednesday, Sept. 5 with a home game at 7 p.m. against Hartwick College.
