Elmira Runs Past Wells Women's Soccer

Visiting Elmira College pulled away in the second half and claimed a 7-1 win over the Wells College women's soccer team in a match played Wednesday, Sept. 12 at the Wells Turf Field.

Wells opened the scoring in the first half. Mackenzie Maloney ran onto a short pass from Carley Ryan and tucked in a goal to the left side of the net. The goal came in the 25th minute, and it was the third of the season for Maloney. It was the second assist of the year for Ryan.

Elmira answered with a goal in the 43rd minute on a lofted shot from distance. The Soaring Eagles added six goals in the second half for the victory.

Wells goalkeeper Alexis Sterio made her first collegiate start and had 11 saves.

Elmira is 1-3-1 on the year and Wells is 1-3-0.

Wells is back in North Eastern Athletic Conference play Saturday, Sept. 15 at SUNY Poly.
